Necrotising fasciitis NHS hospital
There are two ways in which an NHS hospital may have acted negligently with regards to your necrotising fasciitis.
Firstly, you may have caught the infection while staying in hospital due to substandard medical care. For example, it may be that you developed a hospital acquired pressure sore because nurses failed to attend you properly. A pressure sore can easily become infected. If it becomes infected with certain types of bacteria, it will lead to the necrotising fasciitis infection.
Secondly, you may have caught the infection outside of hospital, but then received substandard medical care when you presented to hospital seeking advice for your symptoms.
Normally the symptoms of necrotising fasciitis include severe pain in the tissue with no obvious cause, skin that is red and hot to touch and fever. In the later stages there will also be visible skin changes such as pus-filled blisters, skin that is black in colour and dead tissue.
These symptoms should prompt doctors to investigate the underlying cause. This should lead to an accurate diagnosis and immediate medical treatment. If this is not achieved because of medical errors – most commonly a failure to diagnose – the infection will progress until it become life-threatening.
Claiming against a Bristol hospital
If you believe a Bristol hospital contributed towards your necrotising fasciitis infection, please get in touch with us today. If there has been a case of medical negligence, we will be able to pursue a claim for you, ensuring you receive the compensation you rightfully deserve.
You can also make an enquiry on behalf of a loved one, who may either be too ill to enquire themselves, or who has since passed away.
Please do not hesitate when seeking legal advice, as claims must be made within three years of the index event (meaning the negligent incident). If three years lapses, you will not be able to make a claim, even if you have obviously mean the innocent victim of medical error.
